Color Drapery

i'm running out of creative titles. for this assignment we had to choose a color palette from a film or viz dev image etc. i choose Ratatouille. i dont think i was very accurate in my interpretation but thats why you keep trying!

Hakuna Matata

Ha! no worries...that does NOT describe school right now. i wish i could live by that motto. also i really dont think meerkats would subscribe to it either. They are my animal this semester. i drew some at the zoo and im going back next week to do more. hopefully the quality improves.

Color Experiment

the challenge this week was to use a warm and cool tone in our drapery/figure drawing. this is a first attempt so i didnt hit the nail on the head but i think its a pretty good try. it was fun and i will definitely be doing more. i used pastels on tonal paper. :)

Spring Awakening

so i just got back from the show in SF and it was totally awesome!! I really want to go see it again and do stage seating cause you're right on stage with the cast! we almost did that instead of balcony but im glad i saw the show the way it was meant to be. i totally recommend this show to everyone! It was so amazing. i did some sketches at intermission and after the show while the cast was signing autographs, they're not works of art but they're kinda cool.

Once More With Feeling

my second head study. it looks better than the first which means i am going to redo the first cause i can't look at it without shuttering..

head study

my first shot at the head study assignment. we were allowed to use a photograph which is probably why it didnt turn out quite right. i may redo it...depending on how much time i have after completing my other homework >

Seussical

I did these sketches while i helped out the show over the summer. I painted the sets for the show and did spot light too. these were just for fun and clearly have issues but i wanted to post them for the director of the show.

France

so here are some sketches i did in France. i didnt have a great time in France but i got some good sketches. i would probably give Paris another shot but...i couldnt recommend it to anyone i didnt hate.

Happiest Place on Earth

I went to Disneyland this labor day weekend and had a blast like i always do at Disneyland. i bought more stuff than i need but wanted. i got this awesome set of lithographic reproductions of 6 original 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs lobby card set. its limited edition and hand numbered, only 1000 were produced. they are so pretty. im going to frame them. the only thing i was bummed about was the lack of Wall-E merch. we were told that the warehouse was flooded at the distributor so they wont be getting anymore merch until dec. :( my parents bought season passes but i get free tickets from work so i wont break down and buy a season pass....yet. :P i did alot of sketching while at the park and here is some of my doodles of attractions and people standing in line. i only had a few colors to work with :P

break the bank

I went to this really cool place last weekend called Petroglyph. It's in Roseville and you can choose from a wide selection of different pottery pieces to paint. they have figurines and plates, bowls, cups and pretty much anything kitchen related that you can imagine. I choose the most generic of them all: a piggy bank. sounds lame, but it wasn't. i had a blast painting my little piggy and hope it will represent future financial stability. i made him look shocked...either because there is money IN him or...money being take out of him. hes not in color cause...i painted him pink ..like a loser. I think when i go back i will paint a dish and have some preconceived creative ideas for it. i blame painting a pig on my lack of spontaneous creativity. :P naw, but he is pretty cute . :)

Old Stuff

i just feel weird not posting anything...ever. once im back in SJ...which will be never, I will have lots of stuff to post. in the mean time, i thought i would submit some older stuff i did in class...and just in my sketchbook.
my charcoal reversal for 112A
Color rendering (split comp. color scheme) for 113A
and this is just for shits and giggles, its my room mate, Leif...when he had appendicitis in the hospital. he looked and felt awful.

Irritated

soo yay! breaking dawn came out at midnight saturday night and i was in line with a few friends to get a copy. unfortunately ....shit my cat is like vomiting. ugh! Anyways! unfortunately i had already read some spoilers online before the book release and a lot of negative criticism from 'fans'. i went into the book very skeptical but was very satisfied once the book ended. I honestly do not understand the negative reactions to this book and it really irritates me. I dont care if people dont like the book, not everyone has to... its more the way in which they comment about it. no one seems to have a reason, its just immature comments like "ultimate FAIL" or "s.meyer is teh suck!!!11". it irritates me so much i wish i could disown this fandom.

i applaud stephenie meyer for writing the book she wanted to write. its not going to go down in history like a work of Shakespeare, its a completely indulgent young adult novel! its a guilty pleasure! this isnt going to be required reading in your adv. english high school classroom! people are upset that she wrapped everything up in a pretty bow and gave the characters there happy ending. 1. people would be MORE pissed if she had given them a bad ending. 2. this ISNT the end! its the end from Bella's point of view. meyer needs to leave things a little open because she is planning more stories...or maybe not considering the appauling behavior of her fans. 3. this HAS been what meyer has been alluding to throughout the entire series: love conquers all, people can change, you dont have to accept the life that was handed to you. everyone who thinks Bella was supposed to sacrifice everything for edward...well she DID, she was willing to and thats why things worked out. Bella believed things could be better, she was prepared to loose it all, and she essentially did.

i think the fandom got caught up in too much hype, too many personal expectations, and meyer cant please everyone. she certainly pleased me and i hope she continues these stories. im stepping off my soap box now.

an update

I feel like i should just type something. I have soooo much art work to put up but i dont have a scanner cause i am stuck in auburn. but i AM drawing and will have lots of cool stuff to put up in the next few weeks...yay!

tonight i just finished the summer musical. i painted all the sets and helped with lighting. they asked me to come back next summer and be the official art director so i am excited about that. its a ways away and i dont know what next summer will hold but i would like to do it if i can.

mmmmm this summer has been recently uneventful but europe was a mostly good experience and i got to go to Paris Disneyland.

um new favorite movie...Wall-E. The Dark Knight was good but i could watch Wall-E endlessly.

just slightly obsessed

my new header is in honor of the new Twilight teaser trailer that was released today...or discovered today. thats pretty much it. I love this book and am super excited for the movie. you can check out the trailer for yourself here:Twilight Trailer!

Also there are some super cool fan forums out there if you are interested. my personal favorite is the lion_lamb livejournal community or Twilight Lexicon.

remember my tidepool was inspired by the settings in the book.

Also counted only 2 Mexican flags today which was highly dissapointing and a major step down from last year's Cinco de Mayo count of 53. you need to step it up San Jose...

in living color

This was a quick color comp for my final assignment. It still needs some work but this is my basic outline for my color scheme. Sorry for the pixelation. It was painted on top of a photocopy. on a side note. Gary Busey is insane.

Merry...Earth Day?

It's April 22nd and they finally took the Christmas signs down on Alum Rock road and replaced them with “Shop Alum Rock Village” signs. Oh yeah…right. I suppose you could stop off and grab your cash advance for your abortion before hitting up the pet store to buy a fish to replace your fetus and a bottle of liquor to drown your sorrows.

something old

i found this image on my computer. i did this digital charcoal drawing....a looong time ago while i was at jr. college and just seeing it again was kinda cool. although the image itself isnt finished, just looking at it brings back memories of what school was like at that time, who my friends were and what i enjoyed. i feel like for my skill level at that time, this we pretty impressive for me. i did have reference for this piece but it was still a really great exercise and it reminds me of when i was really confident in my art work. ah those were the days, but everyone has to grow up some day. right?
